It's sort of a collaboration, but she does all the heavy-lifting, as it were. As for my interest in Steam fashion, mostly it's come over the last few months, especially after seeing some of the amazing and versatile things people were posting over on Deviantart. I'm still pretty new at it and haven't done much more than make a steampunk inspired skirt, but I'm really fascinated by the whole style in general. steamfashion [ mlleviolet ]	5:08p	MTA Nostalgia Train - December 27 is the last day (NYC) First let me apologize for not being more on the ball about the 2009 MTA Nostalgia Train in NYC. I was distracted by grad school and only yesterday did I notice the sign advertising the 2009 MTA Nostalgia Train. It is running on the V line on Sundays until December 27th, but because of yesterday's snowstorm, it's not running today. That means next Sunday is the last day to catch the Nostalgia Train. It's too bad that I missed the Vintage Tea Party on the nostalgia train on December 13 - maybe some of you were fortunate enough to attend? Anyway, it is a 1930s train, a bit beyond what might be considered steampunk, perhaps more steampulp or dieselpunk. Anyway I intend to try to catch it next Sunday, since I live right near the West 4th Street station, so it's just a matter of waiting on the V platform until one comes along. It's rather last minute but if anyone else is interested in riding the vintage train on December 27, leave a comment and we'll try to meet up. (3 Comments |Comment on this)

Due to circumstances still unknown to me my time machine seems to have made a wrong turn somewhere in the cosmos and i have arrived, quite to my surprise in this wintry land. steamfashion [ bsti ]	1:24p	Where The Garters Are During this holiday season, I noticed more than a few comments from customers shopping for gifts a Sock Dreams that stated they could not find sock garters at any brick-and-mortar department/clothing stores, and they had done an online search and were happy to have found us. A couple of them even said the salespeople looked at them as if they were crazy! I don't know if it's entirely true, but thought it worth bringing up here, because we do sell a variety of sock garters, some of which are custom made for Sock Dreams. They are a bit on the pricey side because they are handmade for us and in limited supply. I don't know how this question will be recieved, but I want to let you know that I ask it sincerely, and with no attempt to make anyone feel obligated to strike a debate. With that disclaimer out of the way, here it is: Are there any non-alcoholic events around the DC/Northern Virginia area? I've been researching many steampunk meetups but it seems that many of them, at least in my region, are centered around the substance I have chosen to stay away from. It's quite frustrating. I understand that a lot of important events naturally gravitate toward it, but is there an alternative that I've somehow missed in my exploration? If there isn't, what are your thoughts on kicking off something new? I'm not sure how to tag this post, but I've noticed some of my tags have changed in the past. According to the website, it will take place on New Year's Eve in the following cities: Chicago, IL Honolulu, HI Nashville, TN Philadelphia, PA Richmond, VA Washington, DC Unfortunately, it is damn near impossible to find a sitter to watch our two year old on New Year's eve, so my husband and I cannot attend.  However, several of our friends will be going to the Chicago event dressed in Steampunk attire. steamfashion [ pdproductions ]	12:08p	Steampunk'd a fun Short film by Penny Dreadful Productions Hey Everyone, it's Matt from Penny Dreadful Productions. I recommend reading the journal BEFORE watching the film. here is a link if you want to view it in another window, if not, the embedded version is below http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAfdm1PJSPk The other day, the gang and I got a chance to experiment with a new still camera that shoots 1080p HD video. I was given a day or two for prep, came up with this silly idea for an Over the Top funny steampunk short and 15 hours later here we are. The Video was shot in 5 hours and edited in ten. Please keep in mind when watching that this was just a fun project for me and the crew from Penny Dreadful Productions. I understand it's not the greatest quality, there tons of continuity issues, awful lighting issues, and shaky camera moves, but hopefully everyone will enjoy it regardless. The whole shoot in general was a real obstacle. If this project were a real serious one i would hide this video from the eyes of any viewer, but This was just meant to be a fun experience, and a learning opportunity for shooting with the new cam, so all in all i'm happy with the results, even if they aren't to my usual standard. Definitely Sherlock Holmes, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus and others, but one I had not heard of, maybe because it isn't being released until February 2010, that has incorporated a lot of steamy elements is "The Wolfman," starring Benicio del Toro and Anthony Hopkins. Normally, I'm not a wolfman kind of person. So many bad movies have been done about this subject, but this one looks like it should be really, really good and I fully intend on seeing this one! That reminded me that Yahoo has also included some steamy choices in their option for setting up your little avatar picture. There isn't a lot of variety of choice, but it is interesting that, here again, the "outside world" is picking up on steampunk. Much more romantic & detailed than my normal jewelry; these are a lot of fun! They still have some of my industrial accents, like tiny lightbulbs, little fuses, & other bits & pieces, but done in a much more feminine way. Check out the pics: There are some pieces of old jewelry that have been recycled into new designs, lots of freshwater pearls, old rhinestones, & of course old keys.... They're magnificent accessories that look good and make a chap feel like he's a thousand pounds sterling (before adjusting for inflation, of course). Ties come in all manner of shapes and colors, and they can be tied in a wide variety of ways. They can add a bit of dash to an otherwise somber outfit, or they can be used to tie together various otherwise unconnected colors in the remainder of the outfit. Ties are naturally of critical importance to gentlemen wishing to dress steampunk, especially oriented toward the later portion of the steam age, but they should not be dismissed outright by the ladies either. Many's the charming female outfit I've seen incorporating a cravat or tie in a most appropriate fashion. Well, this group inspired me to make my own outfit (it's still in progress, so no pics yet). But, on to the point of the post! I just wanted to let everyone here know that Anime Los Angeles has announced that Sunday is "Steampunk Day". Because the website is a bit blah, I'll pass on the info here.
